Deepening the Dimensions of Puthunarvu Nadai
In an increasingly digitized, hyper-connected, and secularized world, one might expect ancient traditions like the yearly pilgrimage to decline. Yet the opposite is happening: annual pilgrim footfall is growing globally year after year. The yearly pilgrimage is an intricate, multi-layered human endeavor. It is at once a psychological release valve, an embodied ritual dance, a test of human-environmental harmony, and a living bridge between ancient wisdom and the modern world. Our yearly pilgrimage, “Puthunarvu nadai”, is conducted in two phases: the first coincides with Karthigai Deepam, and the second with Arudra Dharshan. In the first phase, we explore Thiruvannamalai, Papavinasam, Sri Kalahasthi, Kancheepuram and Chidambaram. In the second phase, we explore Chidambaram, Uthiragosamangai, Thiruchendur, Suchindram, Kalakad, Courtallam, Pazhamuthircholai, Pazhani and Thirupattur.
The physical path acts as an outer container for an inner spiritual landscape, wherein geographical milestones correspond to stages of inner purification. Thus, this trip endures not as an obsolete relic of pre-modern superstition but as a vital socio-spiritual technology.
